Prep is the paint job

Gloss is what makes a wavy panel obvious, so the body gets guide coated and block sanded until the reflections run straight. Most of the hours on a full paint job go into that prep, not the colour.

Colour sand and buff

After the clear goes on it gets wet sanded, compounded and polished. That is what separates a finish that holds up from one that looks good for a season.

No blow over paint

Spraying colour over bad metal is money you spend twice, so the shop does not do cheap blow over jobs. If there is rust under the paint it gets fixed first.

What it runs

A full paint job usually runs 100 to 160 hours at $150 per hour plus materials. Single panels and smaller refinishing jobs are quoted the same way, in a written estimate.

  • Base clear, single stage, custom finishes
  • Guide coat and block sanding
  • Wet sand, compound, polish

Common questions

Is there a paint shop near Smithers?

Yes. The shop is at 4635 Jackpine Rd in Telkwa, a short drive from Smithers. Drop off by appointment, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

How much does a full repaint cost?

A full paint job usually runs 100 to 160 hours at $150 per hour plus materials. You get a written estimate that breaks out hours and materials before work starts.

Can you paint just one panel?

Yes. One panel resprayed is normal work here. Not every job has to be a full repaint.

Can I supply my own paint?

Usually yes. Talk to us first about the paint system, because mixing products from different lines is how finishes fail down the road.
